Friday the 13th, Part 13 — Jason’s Friend

“They will have nightmares for ages,” said one mother after six boys in Brisbane, Qld., Australia, had a slumber party. According to the boys, a neighbor, Brent Hayes, knocked on the door at 2:45 a.m. and asked the mostly 12-year-olds if they wanted to go for a walk. When they refused, Hayes allegedly went on a three-hour rampage, screaming they “were going to die” and trying to knock down the door to their townhouse. The boys made several calls to police and to a boy’s mother. When police finally responded, an officer said Hayes lunged at her with six knives; she shot him in the groin. Deputy Commissioner Ross Barnett brushed aside questions about the lengthy police response. “On a busy Friday night, resources are stretched and priority is given to various jobs as they come in.” (MS/Brisbane Courier-Mail) ...And everyone knows you can’t shoot the bad guy until the last possible moment.
