California’s Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office set up a dropbox in front of their Coastal Station in Carpinteria for residents to drop off unwanted drugs — old prescriptions and such. A deputy noticed a man hanging around the dropbox just after midnight. “The suspect was using a homemade cord and fishing hook to remove syringes, medications and other controlled substances that were inside the cabinet,” a department spokesman said. The scheme was successful: when Christian Kulbe, 46, was arrested, officials say, he had already managed to retrieve an assortment of drugs.
