Australia’s Department for Correctional Services low security prisoner Shane Gauci, 41, was on a prison bus for an external work program at the low security Adelaide Pre release Centre. When the bus made a stop at a service station, Gauci went inside for a bathroom break. “He did not return to the Department of Corrections bus that was transporting him,” a police statement said, “and is now unlawfully at large.” Witness Khoo Chanthapanya believed the reflective vest Gauci wore could have facilitated his escape. “A lot of people came in this morning wearing high vis vests and they could have blended in with everyone else,” he said. “It was a busy time of the morning.” The service station where he ran is part of a chain called ...On The Run.
