How Heavy Was That Chair?

As punishment, a 16-year-old Berrien Springs, Mich., boy had been handcuffed to a chair in his room for a week, but finally managed to move his chair close enough to a computer to call 911 while his mother was out of the house. Both the boy and his 9-year-old sister are in temporary foster homes. The unnamed boy apparently had been handcuffed to a kitchen chair after having been caught shoplifting, and he’d been given a Bible and told to stay there and think about what he’d done. But his mother found out he’d somehow gotten hold of an MP3 player, and for that he was handcuffed to a chair in his room from 6:00 am to 7:00 pm every day, police say. At bedtime he was handcuffed to a desk leg, and was provided with a bell to ring when he needed to use a bathroom. He told police he was supposed to be spending several months in his room, but couldn’t take it anymore.
