Ill Equipped
The 911 calls were streaming in: there was a wrong-way driver on the Interstate through Maitland, Fla. By the time Florida Highway Patrol troopers could get there, the car had crashed into a barrier. The driver, Angela Sammons, 32, was in good enough condition that she could get out of the car by herself — but was stumbling and staggering, troopers say, and put her shoes on the wrong feet. Sammons was arrested on charges of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, and in the subsequent search of her car, troopers found multiple driver’s licenses, loaded guns, and handcuffs — Sammons was an officer for the state’s Division of Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco, but had resigned last year.
