Just a Shell of His Former Self

Damian O’Reilly, 20, purposefully got himself arrested in Ottawa, Ont., Canada: he threw a rock at a police car. Already on probation, O’Reilly was quickly lodged in the Ottawa-Carleton Detention Centre, just as he planned, investigators said later. Why? Because just before that, he crammed eight “Kinder Surprise eggs” — plastic egg-shaped capsules that usually have chocolate and a toy — into his rectum. He had replaced the treats with marijuana, which he figured he could sell to inmates inside for ten times street value, police say. Jail officials say the eggs are the “most popular” method of smuggling contraband into jail. Perhaps because O’Reilly looked to be “in some discomfort,” jailers put him into an isolation cell with no toilet — just a bucket. Sure enough, once there he removed the eggs, which were then confiscated. O’Reilly apparently set a record: the previous jail record was just four Kinder Surprise eggs. O’Reilly pleaded guilty to drug trafficking, and was sentenced to two years in prison. (RC/Ottawa Citizen) ...No surprise.
