Kids, Don’t Try This

Three varsity baseball coaches from Ridgefield (Conn.) High School were placed on administrative leave while police investigate an incident on the team’s home field. “At this point, we do not believe the coaching staff was directly involved,” said Superintendent William Collins, but the coaches were placed on leave until the investigation is complete “out of an abundance of caution.” The teams were waiting for dirt on the infield to dry before the game, and someone tried pouring gasoline around third base and lighting it on fire. When it seemed to help dry it, someone poured more gasoline — 24 gallons — on the rest of the field, and lit it on fire. The 15-foot flames caused an estimated $50,000 in damage to the field.
