Russell Terrence Weribone, 40, was jailed. “It was the second time, we’ll be alleging, that he tried to set fire to the same camera.” A traffic camera, that is: they responded twice to fires set at the camera, at 12:20 a.m., and then at about 3:45 a.m. The arsonist allegedly used an odd technique to set it alight: clothing soaked with a flammable liquid. “We have what we understand are burnt up jocks, yes jocks, underwear, at the bottom,” said another officer. Weribone, who claimed he was trying to put out the fire, not start it, was released on A$500 (US$360) bail.
