Ms. Copperfield Goes Shopping

A Bay County, Mich., sheriff’s deputy responded to a Family Dollar store, where the manager alleged Jackie Barnard, 32, had shoplifted. The deputy arrested Barnard and put her in the back of his car. When he returned, Barnard was smoking a cigarette she apparently had hidden along with a lighter. At the jail, the deputy searched her cigarette pack and found a pill, which he showed Barnard. “She leaned in for a closer look and attempted to eat it out of my hand,” the deputy wrote. “Her mouth was wide open and [she] lunged forward with it.” Another search revealed more pills: 10, in a body cavity. She passed out (possibly from the pills) and was taken to the hospital, where she allegedly tried to steal medical supplies. According to court records, once she was back in jail, Barnard called the Family Dollar multiple times: first to offer to pay back $5 a month if the charges were dropped, and then threatening to sue because her bicycle was now missing. (MS/Bay City Times) ...Check her other body cavities.
