Nature’s Way

An unnamed “middle-aged” woman in Sandwich, Mass., wondered why a pet store had rats. Snake food, she was told. Horrified, she bought them to protect them from being eaten. Three months later, “she realized she was in over her head,” said a spokesman for the Massachusetts SPCA, “and she drove to Boston.” Her two rats had turned into 71, and she didn’t know what to do.
