Not Cool

“Sometimes,” said a Facebook commenter, “a shower is just a shower.” And sometimes it isn’t: the “showers” some Auschwitz victims were herded into turned out to be gas chambers. The cooling mist showers Auschwitz tourists have been offered this summer evoke that, critics say. A spokesperson for the camp in Krakow, Poland, which attracted a quarter of a million visitors in the first three months of this year, said the unusually high heat this summer made cooling facilities necessary: some visitors had already fainted.
