Oh Phuket

Thailand’s Culture Ministry has warned women in the country that “underboob selfies” are illegal per the 2007 Computer Crimes Act. Women who post photos of the lower part of their breasts could go to prison for up to 5 years. And how will they be able to prosecute women? “When people take these ‘underboob selfies’ no one can see their faces,” admits Ministry spokesman Anandha Chouchoti. “So it’s like, we don’t know who these belong to, and it encourages others to do the same. We can only warn people to not take it up. They are inappropriate actions.” Inappropriate or not, the trend has “gone viral” online. (RC/Reuters) ...The “others” he’s actually worried about? The kathoey.
Author’s Note: Kathoey, known online as “Ladyboys,” are Thai transgender women or effeminate men who identify as women or a third gender.
