Out of the Blue
Lakeisha Brooks, 33, was checking out at a grocery store in Houma, La., when she saw a bright flash and heard a loud boom. Then she felt a burning sensation. Her 2-year-old daughter was sitting in her shopping cart, and she pushed it away to get the girl to a safer location. As she tried to move away, it happened again. “I didn’t realize I had been struck by lightning until I saw it again,” Brooks said. “A man there kept saying, ‘You never see lightning strike the same place twice.’ Well, it did.” Police theorize the bolt came through the store’s fire sprinkler piping. Brooks was taken to a hospital to be checked out, and was able to go home. The child wasn’t injured. Brooks said she thought it was safe to be inside during lightning, but now isn’t so sure. “Just knowing it could happen inside a grocery store,” she said, “...it could happen anywhere.” (RC/Houma Today) ...What part of “10 items or fewer” did she not understand?Original Publication Date: 21 July 2013
