Paleoentomology

Evolution has produced a wide variety of beetles, a number of which are on display at Ohio’s Cleveland Museum of Natural History. But one “beetle” in that display is not a product of natural selection, at least not directly. It’s a product of Volkswagen, scaled down to the size of an actual bug. A museum spokeswoman says the Beetle has been on display for years. “Visitors are always excited when they uncover these humorous and unexpected objects,” she says. One visitor was so excited he posted a photo to Reddit — and it went viral.
