Society for Creative Butt Whippings
Karen Dolley, 43, woke up around midnight in her Indianapolis, Ind., home to the sound of a man’s voice. She immediately jumped out of bed, turned on the lights, and saw Jacob Wessel, 30, who had allegedly broken into the house. Dolley immediately attacked, punching the man about ten times and cornering him in the bedroom. She reached for a drawer to retrieve her gun, but opened the wrong drawer. Since there was no gun there, she reached for her backup weapon: her sword. Dolley, who had been a member of the Society for Creative Anachronism since she was 18, is skilled at medieval combat fighting. She held Wessel at sword-point while she called the police, who arrived within two minutes and arrested him on felony residential entry. Dolley credits her training with the SCA, where she regularly fought against much larger, more experienced men, with helping during the break-in. “I definitely don’t need to work on my aggression, I guess,” Dolley said. She’s now using those lessons to help with her latest passion: she’s a new recruit for the Naptown Roller Girls roller derby league, where she’s known as Foul Morguean. (MS/Indianapolis Star) ...Because the Roller Girls respect any gal who can take down a punk without a gun.Original Publication Date: 01 November 2015
