Teaching Prisoners to be Self-Sufficient

Logan Long, 24, Damarcus Dixon, 19, and five other prisoners were in a locked transport van in Raleigh, N.C. According to Lincoln County Sheriff David Carpenter, a door lock bar on a cage inside the van had worn out after years of opening and closing. The bar vibrated itself unlocked and Long and Dixon allegedly reached through the opening and opened the back door, enabling them to escape when the van stopped at a stoplight. The other five prisoners remained in the van; Long and Dixon were captured an hour later, just two blocks away. The Sheriff’s office will replace the bar with a new locking device, and adjust the door so the unlock lever of the van will no longer work from the inside. (MS/Charlotte Observer) ...Dumb criminals vs. dumb van design: let’s call it a tie.
