Test Drive

A man walked into a car dealership in Madison, Wisc., and asked to test drive a car. After the dealer gave him the keys, he was interrupted by other customers, and the 47-year-old man drove off. Two hours later, the dealer reported the vehicle stolen, and police located the man and car about seven miles away. The man said he’d driven about 75 miles away to Milwaukee to get money for the car and fully intended to return the car the next day. The police department acknowledged there could have been a misunderstanding. “The public should be reminded in a case of this nature to review dealership expectations about how long a reasonable test drive should be, and an anticipated distance to be driven before the vehicle leaves the premises,” they said. The man didn’t seem to think there was an issue. “You just don’t take it for a 15-minute test drive,” he said. (MS/Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel) ...15 minutes, no. Overnight, no. There’s a happy medium there somewhere.
