Thick Red Line

“My experiences working with Lt. Gesell and Victor Aravena have been exemplary,” said Capt. Bruce Polkowitz of the Edison (N.J.) Police Dept., who is also the president of the Superior Officers Association. “They have an outstanding work ethic. They’re honorable, fair and decent police officers.” And he said that after Gesell and Aravena were arrested with a third officer, Michael Dotro, and charged with conspiracy to retaliate against a police officer from North Brunswick, who had the gall to arrest a friend of Dotro’s for drunk driving. Dotro is already charged with arson and attempted murder in another incident for firebombing a superior’s house — while his mother, wife, and children were inside. Why? Because Dotro’s captain had ordered him to take a “fitness for duty” psychological examination after being charged with his 11th excessive force allegation. (RC/Newark Star-Ledger) ...If those are the honorable cops in town, I’m not sure I want to know what the average ones are like.
