True Love

Australia’s Sydney Zoo is offering a contest for Valentine’s day: for a $1 donation, your ex’s name, and a statement as to why you’re deserving, you’re entered in a contest. The prize: they will name a snake after the winner’s ex, and “you can also visit the snake in Darling Harbour as many times as you want during the next year!” said zoo manager Mark Connolly. Meanwhile, Texas’s El Paso Zoo has its own twist: participants don’t even have to donate, but they can send in their ex’s name and the zoo will name a cockroach after them. On Valentine’s Day, the zoo will live-stream online their “Quit Bugging Me” event: “The meerkats love to get cockroaches as a snack,” says Zoo Event Coordinator Sarah Borrego, “and what better way to celebrate Valentine’s Day than by feeding them a cockroach named after your ex!” (RC/Surrey Hills Daily Telegraph, KFDM Beaumont) ...El Paso wins: who wants constant reminders of your “snake” of an ex?
