Vigilante Mentality
The Taimei Elementary School in Tokyo, Japan, made international headlines (see “A Cut Above” earlier in this volume) when its principal chose Armani uniforms for its students, for which parents are shelling out more than 80,000 yen (US$730). Now the school has had to hire security guards — almost unheard of at schools in Japan — due to “abusive” people in the street harassing the students over their uniforms. “Security guards are patrolling area streets that pupils use in the morning and when they go home,” a school spokeswoman said. “This is about student safety.” (RC/AFP) ...Typical angry mob: attack the innocent targets rather than the guilty one.Original Publication Date: 18 March 2018
