What’s the Point?

In Nottinghamshire, England, domestic violence accounts for over 17 percent of reported incidents, and a significant number of those involve knives. To combat the violence, police purchased 100 “no-point” knives that will be given to domestic violence victims who have been threatened or attacked with a knife. “This is a measure we need to take,” claims Police Superintendent Matt McFarlane. “It is a trial. We have about a 100 of them, and we have so far given out about 50.” Domestic violence victims will stay in a relationship for a variety of reasons, and police are hoping the knives — which are dull at the end but can still cut on the edge — will reduce the risk to those victims. “Sometimes you have to trial things to see if they work,” McFarlane said. “Anything that stops someone being seriously injured is a good idea.” (MS/Nottingham Post) ...And something that gives a false sense of security isn’t.
