What’s Up with Jumbo Joke?

An old email humor list I ran called “Randy’s Random” got turned into a web site, Jumbo Joke, way back in 2004.

Short Version: It’s Gone

Longer Version:

In October 2015, I announced I was going to sell it — by auctioning the site off with several other domains and sites. I repeated this announcement several times through the end of the year so that readers with interest in bidding in the auctions could do so.

The auction went live in January, and sold to a reader. Since the reader, a military medic, was deployed overseas, I continued to operate the site for several months. Once he got word he was coming home in June, I announced that I would stop making posts in June. I finished with a repeat of one of my own favorite (and very early) true stories, Foomp!

I had hoped the site would be relaunched with a new design, and follow its 12-year tradition of publishing well-edited, high quality humor.

Alas, it seems like the buyer is too busy to get it going again, and it has gone offline completely. Will it come back? No idea.

Meanwhile…

In January 2017, as announced in a later post, I resurrected Randy’s Random — not as an email joke list, but as a “thought-provoking & entertaining memes” site.

Check it out at RandysRandom.com.

  1. What?! YOUR readers DON’T READ?? You TOLD them MONTHS ago!!!

Yeah, I know, but life is busy, people skim, they don’t notice a lot of things. Now, I have a place to point them. 🙂 -rc

  2. Some people just don’t pay attention. When I read that you were getting questions about why there were no longer Jumbo Joke links and the site wasn’t being updated, the very first thing that entered my mind was: “He sold that site didn’t he?”

  3. Wouldn’t it make sense to post this (or an) announcement on JJ itself?

Yes and no: since it’s not my site, I need permission from the owner. I wouldn’t want to post something there that would damage it in any way, since it’s not my property, without written permission, which I don’t have. -rc

  4. It just goes to show that no matter how many times a notice is posted, someone will not read it. It’s the same thing in regards to signs in stores.

I’ve heard people ask how much an item is in a dollar store, and there are signs everywhere that say everything’s a dollar.

I’ve also heard that people go to a take and bake pizza place and get upset when they realize there’s no oven. Once again, there’s a sign that says it’s “take and bake”.

That’s just the tip of the iceberg. That’s just how it goes.

Yep, and there’s no reason to be upset about it, so just plan for it. That’s why this is here. 🙂 -rc

  5. I miss your Jumbo Jokes but that’s ok, I miss Tom Terrific (my favorite cartoon), but Jumbo Jokes, by whatever name, will return, Tom won’t.

  6. And that quote is Bill Engvall’s, not Jeff Foxworthy’s. When quoting someone, it’s important to get the attribution correct. 😉

  7. Hello, folks. I’m marginally involved in the relaunch of the JJ site, with enough information to say that “we’re working on it”.

  8. Well it seems as of April 5, 2018, JumboJoke.com has gone completely dark. Whois info says it’s valid till april 2020, but of course that’s just the domain registration, not the host.

Hopefully this is just a temporary thing, and they’ll be back online soon. If not, it will be missed.

    I wish I knew. -rc
