When Locks are Outlawed, Only Outlaws Will Have Locks

Residents of the English counties of Kent and Surrey have been warned about potential lawsuits if they use wire mesh to reinforce garden shed windows, which they have been doing to protect their property against burglars. Police are warning that the wire mesh is “dangerous” and could lead to criminals suing the owners if they “hurt themselves” while breaking in. “It is ridiculous that the law protects them even though they are breaking it,” complained Thomas Cooper of Tatsfield, Surrey, who reinforced his shed after several break-ins. The more clever thieves aren’t injuring themselves, however. “We had some tools stolen every now and again,” said Samantha Cullum of Brasted, Kent, “but this time they took the entire shed.” (MS/London Telegraph) ...It was time SOMEBODY thought of the poor, defenseless criminals.
