Wishing Well

A China Southern Airlines flight was delayed at Pudong International Airport in Shanghai, China, when a passenger was seen doing something odd just before boarding. The 80-year-old woman, identified only by the surname Qiu, threw coins into the Airbus 320’s engine. The engine had to be inspected for damage before the flight could take off for Guangzhou, causing a four-hour delay. One coin was indeed found inside the engine; eight more were missed. Witnesses say Qiu said she was throwing the coins into the engine for luck. (RC/AFP, Shanghai Daily) ...Metal chunks tossed into an aircraft the engine does ensure luck — bad luck.
