Medieval II (Florida Style)
Bill Rooks, 89, was having lunch with his 59-year-old housekeeper in his Maitland, Fla., apartment, when a man came to the door, forced his way inside, pushed Rooks aside, and attempted to sexually assault the housekeeper. Rooks ran upstairs and pounded on the door of neighbor Eric Love’s apartment, saying they were being attacked. Love called the police, grabbed his baseball bat, and ran downstairs. After pulling the intruder off the housekeeper, Love says the man “kept saying, repeatedly, ‘I just haven’t been with a woman in a long time. Like, please, just let me go’. I told him, ‘It doesn’t work like that, buddy. Get on the ground.’” The man took a swing at Love, who responded by hitting the man in the leg with his bat, but he was still able to escape. Robin Campbell, 23, turned himself in to police the next day. He’s facing charges of sexual assault, burglary with assault or battery, battery, robbery, petit theft, battery on a person older than 65, and obstructing justice. About his neighbor, Rooks said “I think he saved the day for both of us. That it might have been a lot worse if he hadn’t have did what he did.” (MS/WFTV Orlando) ...Love saved the day — with a baseball bat.Original Publication Date: 09 July 2017
