“I Didn’t Do It” — Florida Style

Police in Vero Beach, Fla., arrested Eric Lamont Smith, 45, when officers found him lying at the top of a stairwell with a baggie of “a white powder substance hanging out of his mouth.” The local newspaper reported that “Smith said the crack [cocaine] did not belong to him.” Furthermore, “He also said he did not know how it wound up in his mouth, which is between the nose and chin.” Smith was hauled to jail, charged with cocaine possession. (RC/Stuart News) ...The newspaper had to paraphrase Smith’s comments, since no one could understand what he was saying.
