Postal Inspector Neville Harper was taken by surprise. A building alarm had activated at a Harlem, N.Y., Post Office, and he was performing a perimeter search. His gun was in his hand. A rat darted from a trash pile. Bang! “Sources” said the gunshot was an accident; a Postal Service spokeswoman said it was “under investigation, and no further details will be released.” Harper wasn’t injured. Neither was the rat.
