Ben Jenkins, 23, says he went on a three-day bender with his mates before going to the first sporting event held at the new Optus Stadium in Perth, W.A., Australia — a cricket match. “For a couple of days, I was saying look, I want to be the first streaker at Optus Stadium,” the plumber and gas-fitter admits. “I really want that title.” He had a lot of last-minute jitters, but “Peer pressure won.” Well that, and once “the clothes came off, there was no turning back.” All he was wearing was his girlfriend’s phone number, which he had scribbled on his arm so he could call her from jail. Jenkins faces an A$5,000 fine, and a possible ban from the stadium. “I talked the talk,” he said, “so I had to walk the walk.” (RC/9News Australia) ...“Isn’t it fascinating to think that probably the only laugh that man will ever get in life is by stripping off and showing his shortcomings?” —David Niven, after watching a streaker cross the stage at the 1974 Academy Awards.Original Publication Date: 18 February 2018
