A Bit Squirrelly

Police Officer Jody Putnam was called to a store in Mountain City, Tenn., when store employees noticed a squirrel inside. Putnam allegedly dealt with the issue by pulling his firearm and shooting at the animal — inside the store. When that failed to get the intended results, Putnam allegedly switched to pepper spray. “There was a lot of people that come out and just like me they came out and they were coughing and a-hacking,” said witness Carl Duffield. The town’s Board of Mayor and Alderman fired Putnam — not because he’d shot at the squirrel, but because he refused to file a report after the incident.
