Left Out in the Cold

On December 26, the Canadian Press reported that the Canadian Forces has chopped C$2 million (US$1.87 million) from its C$13 million clothing budget for its 53,000 military cadets, just in time for winter. “Regrettably you will have to wear your personal parka over your uniform if the weather conditions warrant it,” Col. Conrad Namiesniowski, director for cadets and junior rangers, told his trainees. “I also urge all Cadets to dig into their closets for uniforms that they no longer wear and to seek out those uniform pieces that friends no longer with the program may have,” he ordered — in other words, seek hand-me-downs. The cutback is part of the Canuck military’s contribution to cutting the federal budget deficit. (RC/Canadian Press) ...Today you’ll finally get a change of underwear!
