Mum’s the Word

Parents of students at Arapahoe High School in Centennial, Colo. — the scene of a recent shooting where one girl was killed — are upset with the school. Not because of the shooting, which they say was handled well, but because the school refuses to respond to parents asking for details about the incident. They say school officials won’t acknowledge that they had warning the disgruntled student had previously threatened his debate coach yet did nothing about it, won’t say what they’re doing to increase security, and pretty much won’t answer any questions at all. They say it was similar to what the school did after a “rash” of student suicides several years ago: nothing. “If you can’t tell me as an adult the truth and you can’t have full disclosure with us as parents, then how am I supposed to trust you to take care of my child?” asked one parent. (RC/Denver Post) ...Bingo.
