Not Accustomed to Telling the Truth
Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper has an odd way with words. At an elementary school in Denver during a Literacy Week event, he referred to Lt. Gov. Joe Garcia as “that rising sex star.” As the 40 children blinked, Hickenlooper corrected “Symbol! I mean, symbol — not star.” The next week, at the Colorado Business Committee for the Arts Luncheon, Hickenlooper told about how the wife of Denver Mayor Michael Hancock is an award-winning singer. “We read about how President Obama sings to Michelle in the shower,” Hickenlooper said, “so you can just imagine what the mayor gives his wife in the shower. Uh, I mean what SHE gives him in the shower!” There was no turning it around: a reporter said “The crowd roared” and “the governor turned beet red.” (RC/Denver Post) ...On the other hand, it’s refreshing to see a politician who is capable of feeling embarrassed.Original Publication Date: 08 April 2012
