Number One Teacher

A Vancouver, Wash., third-grade teacher rewards her students with pretend money when they finish schoolwork; then she charges them for treats like popcorn — and bathroom breaks, which cost $50. The teacher refused to waive the fee for a student who had only $50 and wanted to buy popcorn, so the student didn’t go to the bathroom and eventually wet her clothes. “When a child has to pay money to use the bathroom, that’s wrong,” said the student’s mother. “It’s inhumane. That’s a health issue.” The school gave the girl a pair of boy’s shorts to wear, and she was teased for both that and her accident. The district said it would investigate. (AC/KATU Portland) ...One person in that classroom learned a lesson; others need to.
