After an assault report, police in Livingston, Texas, arrested Paul Lee Dewalt Jr., 43. “We are very familiar with him,” said Lt. Matt Parrish. “Dewalt has several other assaults pending against him” — six in the past two years. Knowing he was headed for jail, Dewalt wanted to take something along. “Hold on a second,” he allegedly said to officers. “I need to get my crack pipe.” Once he realized that was a bad move, Dewalt allegedly tried to destroy it, and fought off officers’ attempts to grab it first. In addition to aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, he was charged with tampering with physical evidence, possession of drug paraphernalia, and resisting arrest.
