Painted Himself Into a Corner

Marg Domarecki was rather shocked that a thief would steal a painting from her art gallery in Glenelg, S.A., Australia — “We’re next to the police station,” she notes. But that changed to “actually laughing” when the thief came back to claim his aunt had bought the painting, and wanted to return it for her money back. Domarecki was out when the unnamed 18-year-old man came back, but her staff asked him to come back to speak to the owners. When he returned — and he did return — it didn’t take long for the police to arrive from next door to arrest him. Officers searched his flat and found the artwork hanging on the wall. The painting’s title was not reported. (RC/Kidman Park Guardian-Messenger) ...Portrait of an Obliviot.
