Reaching Out

Michael Witonis of Dover, N.H., was surprised when Apple Computer e-mailed to thank him for calling customer service about his laptop — it had been stolen months earlier, and he’d placed no such call. Witonis called Apple for information to find who had called about his computer, but the company wasn’t very helpful, Witonis said Apple only confirmed that someone had called, and said police could call for more information. “That was the start of an eight-month battle with Apple,” Witonis said, adding that two subpoenas didn’t even help. Neither did a “tweet” to CEO Tim Cook. But a second tweet did, and Witonis said Dover police tracked down a suspect “within two hours” of getting information from Apple. (AC/WMUR Manchester, ABC News) ...Calling Apple proved the thief an obliviot, but who was the brother obliviot who protected him for eight months?
