Police in Beloit, Wisc., have a special offer for residents: they will come to any home on request and search it carefully for any guns that homeowners might not know are there. “Gun violence is as serious as the Ebola virus is being represented in the media, and we should fight it using the tools that we’ve learned from our health providers,” says Police Chief Norm Jacobs. “Really what we’re looking for,” Jacobs says, is guns used in crimes. “Maybe we’ll find a toy gun that’s been altered by a youngster in the house.” (RC/Wisconsin Public Radio) ...And if the officers just happen to find anything in the house that’s illegal during the search, you can be sure they’ll handcuff everyone in the house very gently when they arrest them.
