Straighten Up and Fly Right

The School Board for the Peoria (Ariz.) Unified School District is sick and tired of deciding what’s considered appropriate dress in classrooms, and it’s putting its foot down. It is “clarifying” the dress code during both school hours and extracurricular functions: males must wear a collared shirt; females must wear tops with at least a 2-inch strap; jeans can be worn a maximum of once a week — no exposed cleavage, underwear, midriffs; no flip-flops. “We’re setting an example for students,” said Board member Diane Douglas, and it’s “a long time coming.” That’s right: the new dress code is for teachers and staff, not students, and is apparently a result of them not dressing appropriately. (RC/Arizona Republic) ...It’s time they took school seriously.
