Taken for a Ride

A taxi driver called the Orland Park, Ill., police after two passengers refused to pay their $83 fare. The driver told officers that the 27-year-old male and the 31-year-old female were drunk, and their clothing was “strewn throughout the taxi” as they had sex in the back seat. Upon reaching their destination, they said they had no money. But “Prompted by the presence of police,” the newspaper report notes, “the 27-year-old man used his mother’s credit card to pay the debt” — and then left the woman to find her own way home. (RC/Chicago Tribune) ...Note to reporters: when a 27-year-old pays an $83 cab fare with his mommy’s credit card, you shouldn’t use the word “man” in the sentence.
