Taking the Fun out of Funerals

It tried in 2006. It tried again in 2015. And now the Chinese government is making yet another attempt to strip funerals of strippers. This time, it’s targeting Henan, Anhui, Hebei, and Jiangsu provinces. The hot homages, which endure in some rural communities, may be meant to gather crowds to bring good luck to the dead or come from traditions of honoring fertility, but they’ve also been blamed on modern decadence and vanity.
