The Sanctity of Marriage

Babylonia Aivaz recently got married at a warehouse in Seattle, Wash. Well, not so much at the warehouse as to the warehouse: she said she was marrying the building itself as an “Occupy Seattle” protest against the “gentrification” of the neighborhood. She said she wanted to “reclaim” the block for “community space” — the building was slated to be demolished to make room for an apartment building. Further, Aivaz said, it was a “gay marriage” because the building was a woman. And “was” is the right word: the demolition was moved up and began shortly after the “wedding,” which was witnessed by about 30 of Aivaz’s friends and co-protestors. The ceremony was marred by counter-protestors, who objected to the non-traditional marriage, carrying signs like “Marriage is Between 2 People”. (RC/Seattle Post-Intelligencer) ...And they all want you to take them seriously.
