Usually His Portrait Hangs in the Post Office

Providence, R.I. City Hall had portraits of all of its former mayors, except Vincent “Buddy” Cianci, the city’s longest-serving, at 21 years. Cianci, now 74, was forced out of office in 1984 after he pleaded no contest to felony charges after assaulting his estranged wife’s boyfriend with a fireplace log, an ashtray, and a lit cigarette. Still, once those legal problems were behind him, he was re-elected — and forced out of office again in 2002 for racketeering; he served 4-1/2 years in federal prison in that case. He tried another comeback last year, but voters wouldn’t have him. Once his portrait was unveiled, Cianci announced, “It’s not the first time I’ve been framed.” (RC/AP) ...Yeah, but all the other times had to do with portraits too.
