A Jump in Terrorist Activity

Authorities in Australia have uncovered a terrorist plot scheduled for Anzac Day — the day of remembrance for war veterans of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps. Sevdet Ramadan Besim, 19, allegedly planned to attack Melbourne, Vic., by running over a police officer, then jumping out and beheading him. Besim had other ideas, too, “including a suggestion that a kangaroo could be packed with C4 explosive, painted with the IS symbol and let loose on police officers,” charging documents state. Besim was arrested in a sweep of suspected extremists a week before last year’s Anzac Day, and it took until this month to fully develop the case against him.
