Gold Star for Ignorance

Wanting art to put over the news anchor’s shoulder during a brief story about the Jewish holiday of Yom Kippur, someone at WGN-TV in Chicago, Ill., went into the graphic bank and picked out an image of a Jewish star. A yellow one. With the German word for Jew on it. And with a striped background, much as it would have had on a concentration-camp uniform during the Holocaust. After an uproar, the station says it’s going to provide “Holocaust education and tolerance training” for newsroom staff with the help of the Simon Wiesenthal Center. (AC/WGN Chicago, New York Daily News) ...The help of a third-grade teacher would be more appropriate.
