The Chicken Surprise Meowed

Residents of Birmingham, Ala., are demanding that the city revoke the license of a restaurant because it just doesn’t live up to its name. Chun Hin Ching, 52, owns the restaurant, and when a customer complained about finding a cockroach in her eggroll, Ching gave her a refund — and then fired a shot at her as she left. That’s just the latest, say residents, who have picketed the restaurant with signs such as “If the Food Doesn’t Kill, the Owner Might”. “There have been incidents of him raising a bat to people, showing some guy a butcher knife, because he gets complaints all of the time,” says Councilwoman Sheila Tyson. Ching was charged with attempted murder, and paid $100,000 bail to be released — and reopened the restaurant. Its name: Good Friends Chinese and Seafood. But “It’s just a nasty place and it’s unacceptable,” says City Council President Johnathan Austin. (RC/Birmingham News) ...Yet people still eat there.
